Prompts: Awakening ⭐︎ By Daylight ⭐︎ By Starlight
WELCOME TO CHALRA CITY!
You live in a bustling modern metropolis situated on the coast of the Everwave Sea. Lively and ever-changing, it’s been riding the wave of the recent techno-economic boom, and business has never been better! The city has thawed into spring, bringing with it the balmy breezes and blooms of April, although the mornings are still chilly and damp. Students and their teachers around the city are settling into the new school year a little under a month before its start, and with the weather turning warmer, the city seems even livelier in anticipation of one of the hottest music tours of the year.
awakening
You lead a more or less ordinary life in the bustling Chalra City — this is the world you live in, and it’s the only world you know. And then one day you feel something stir in you — perhaps it comes to you in a dream, or you receive a vivid waking vision upon walking into someone else — and in the back of your mind, you hear a voice that sounds very much like your own, uttering a wish with its dying breath.
You awaken to your destiny as a Nova Knight, a reincarnation of an alien from a dead planet who once fought against the Abyss. With your new transformation charm in hand, it's time to go supernova and, with the help of your comrades, save the world.

by daylight
Now you lead two lives: your everyday life as one of the many citizens of Chalra City, and your life as a reincarnated magical crime fighter. Will you manage to balance the demands of your double lives, or will you buckle under the pressure? Will you trust your fellow Nova Knights, or will you keep your identity a secret? And when your back is against the wall, who will you call for help?
PLAYING PLOT-MANDATED HOOKY
Real life means real obligations, and you're at one right now — whether it's work, school, or a family gathering, you're expected to be there, and you can't just leave without raising a few eyebrows (or questions).
Unfortunately, the ship's computer Nautis has been blowing up your phone with texts, urging you to ditch your responsibilities so you can take care of an urgent threat: innocent cityfolk are mysteriously disappearing under a famously haunted overpass, and it’s most certainly the work of the enemy. The person next to you is also a fellow Nova Knight, and they're getting the same messages. The question is, do you know each other as Nova Knights, or only as colleagues or classmates? And either way, how are you both going to manage to sneak out and take care of business — without being seen transforming in broad daylight?
SUSPICIOUS SCALPER
The entertainment industry in Chalra City is booming, as evidenced by the fact that most of their performance venues are booked year round. And one of the hottest new artists on the Atlace scene has arrived at the Chalra City stop of their nationwide tour! Indie sensation the beautiful unit., comprised of Jana The (vocals and acoustic guitar), Eliza Beautiful (upright bass), and Blair Unit (shakers), has made its mark on Chalra City's pop culture scene before they've even arrived. The tour has attracted enough attention from smaller nearby cities that every light rail car is packed, making an already busy commute even more hectic for the locals, and many a local shop is cashing in on the craze by selling unlicensed the beautiful unit. merch. There's even a new ticket reseller downtown selling tickets to the sold-out show at astonishingly low prices. It seems too good to be true, but some fans' loyalty outweighs their common sense, and on the day of the show, the line goes out the door and halfway around the block. It probably wouldn't hurt to investigate… Wait, with all the tickets they're reselling, does the math even add up?
by starlight
A CAPTIVATING AUDIENCE
When night falls, the curtain rises on the beautiful unit.'s highly anticipated show in the Four Clover Stadium. After a seventeen minute silent intro, the crowd breaks into a roar when Jana The plucks the first note on her acoustic guitar. But as the show goes on, some fans seem to be a little too amped up. Any the beautiful unit. fan who bought tickets from the suspicious new reseller will begin to turn into a blacklit monster, the light sticks clutched in their hands now transformed into fearsome weapons. Before long, dozens of fans have transformed into monsters, and more are following with every beat. The band keeps on playing as the monsters advance towards the stage — it looks like they're trying to kidnap the beautiful unit.!
You can fight off the monsters' advance with your powers, but they outnumber you and they're closing in fast. These monsters are still people, though, and those people are the beautiful unit. fans through and through, so maybe if you can get the band to play a track off their unreleased new album, they'll turn back to normal.
THE DEATH JITTERBUG
The the beautiful unit. craze is inescapable. From banners to badges, you can't turn a corner in Chalra City without seeing their logo (the beautiful unit. in an Arial variant designed as part of an artistic collaboration with the band). You don't even need to go to a show to hear their music — the shopping center at the train station is blasting all their best singles, such as "It's Time To Talk (About You (And Me))" and "Let's! (Family Restaurant)", a jingle originally written for a diner in their hometown that stayed on the Top 40 charts for a record-breaking nine weeks. Their music is popular for a reason, though, and plenty of shoppers are dancing along to the beat. The only problem is…they don't seem to be able to stop!
If you investigate, you'll discover that the small crystals attached to the shopping center's speakers are draining the energy of anyone under the hipster dance curse. If you destroy the crystals, the shoppers should go back to normal, but you never know which one of them is an appropriately themed monster in disguise. If you're not careful, you might find yourself in for a serious dance off.
MONSTER INFO
Here's some convenient info about various monsters for use in TDM threads. For the purposes of the TDM, there aren't hard and fast rules about how they work, so have fun and go wild!
tbu. GROUPIES: Those desperate fans who bought suspiciously scalped tickets will turn into monstrous versions of themselves upon reaching a certain hype level: some of them grow in size; others grow claws, fangs, or hand-crocheted beanies; any fan merch on their person becomes a grotesque weapon. Somehow, they always look like they're under a blacklight, and if you listen closely, their seemingly meaningless grunts comprise an infinite chorus of I was into them before they got big. They're still fans at heart and will probably turn back to normal if you can get their favorite band to play an unreleased single!
THE SOFT SHOE STINGER: Anywhere people seem to be compelled to dance, there's a human-disguised monster in the crowd, poised to attack if any Nova Knights show up. Once unveiled, it's clear from those brightly-colored antennae and compound eyes that this guy is allied with the enemy, and his dance moves truly out of this world. You can defeat this monster by winning in a dance-off, but if enough of you just pummel him with your powers he'll leave. Either way, it's a win.
GROOVE GHOSTS: Any time people are possessed by the spirit of dance, whether at a concert or under the influence of a monster's spell, these guys might show up to jeer at your pitiful moves and heckle you about being off-beat. They can be dispelled by Silver-level powers, but if enough of them gather, it might take a bit more coordination to beat them all.
Note: While the TDM has some specific prompts, you are not limited to these options for threading! Please feel free to use any elements of the setting you see in the info pages.
QUESTIONS
Hope Carassia | Nova Leviathan [tbd] | OC
Hope cannot stand the beautiful unit. anymore. Yes, they're a mainstay, and yes, they've got some fun songs even if they are extremely weird, but right now, Hope is just trying to get some groceries. Not even real groceries; they just want to get some unhealthy drinks and snacks. Normal things to want. And they can't even go that far without songs from t.b.u. slamming into their ears at the same time as the sounds of stomping feet from basically everyone around them. It's enough to make them glare up at the speaker systems like that's going to stop anything, like they're actually going to be able to shut it all up from a glance.
They walk forward towards the energy drinks on autopilot anyway while they keep their eyes locked on the speaker system—and see something glinting underneath it. Strange, and then... well, there's that annoying buzzing in their pocket. They sigh under their breath and slink off to an unoccupied corner, that little nook between the coolers and the storeroom, to check their phone and mutter in irritation. Sure, they can transform now, somehow, but they can't do it here. They glance around, then pull open the door to the storeroom and duck inside.
Taking a breath, they press the phone charm between their fingers, but—"aah! Oh, god, sorry," they begin, looking ahead of them at someone they hadn't expected to run into and pressing a hand to their chest. "I don't work here, but I needed to get away from that music. This is a really aggressive marketing campaign, don't you think?"
b. give me life, give me love, give me fire [audience]
The thing about being a—a Nova Knight, Hope thinks to themself, is that they feel like they can actually do something about all the problems they're running into. And there's enough people here and enough chaos already that they don't need to worry about making a scene, and nobody even recognizes who they are anyway. So they actually... they can actually, finally help. And it's with that beautiful thought in their head that they leap into the fray, their hair a much more vibrant green, their eyes shimmering violet.
The sword that they seem to wield without any effort at all doesn't stay at their side for long. With a triumphant "Binding Blade!", they swing it out towards a pack of approaching transformed concertgoers. It unfurls into a much longer chain and loops around the group, keeping them all securely contained for as long as Hope thinks they can hold on. It's not enough to hold back everything, but they whip their head around, hoping that maybe (just maybe) there's more than one Nova Knight to help them out here.
((a brief info post on hope here!))

kalim al-asim ☀️ nova sunbeam | twisted wonderland
i. Kalim has always taken a lot of comfort from the fact that a lot of the small business owners around town know him. In the day-to-day, it's just nice to be able to say hi to friendly faces – and if there's an emergency, it's nice to know that there's always someone around who can come to his aid for his family's sake. But... ever since he became a Nova Knight, it's gotten to be a little bit of a pain!
Of course it's great that there are so many people around looking out for him... but sometimes he really doesn't want to be looked out for! If any of those guys saw him transform into Nova Sunbeam his family would definitely find out about it really quickly, and he's pretty sure his parents wouldn't be okay with him doing this stuff. Jamil is barely okay with him doing this stuff.
So he's pretty anxious as he ducks into this alleyway – the shop across the street is run by a guy who knows his dad, but if Kalim wants to respond to Nautis's alert, he needs to transform as soon as possible.
It's possible you're someone he already knows is a fellow Nova Knight, but maybe not. Either way, he looks a little relieved when the two of you make eye contact.
"Hey, could you do me a favour?" he says, a little out of breath. "Can you check if the guy at the counter in the video store across the street is looking this way?"
Even if you don't know him, he doesn't seem particularly concerned about what an insanely suspicious request this is...
ii. Great news! Nova Sunbeam is filling up the magical girls only group text channel with irrelevant chit chat. Again. This is happening before the the beautiful unit. show where everything gets definitively messed up, but weird stuff has been going on with ticket scalpers... Not that this guy seems to have noticed that, or that it's what he's here to talk about. As far as he's concerned being teammates means you guys are all best buddies.
hey are any of you guys going to the concert??
ive never listened to the beautiful unit before but so many people want to go it seems like its going to be a really good time!

Natalia Koutolika | Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine
((not sure if awakening can work like this, but if you're willing to walk this path--))
She is a diligent student, past the pale. Skilled on the field of sports and off it, A powerful presence in maths and science classes, Natalia Koutolika is, by some measures, the model student.
But how do you approach the blank-faced queen, whose rattling of facts cuts through weak interpretation and whose curt tone is like ice?
The fact is, Natalia is alone, and has been for the six weeks since she has arrived by barge from places she and her family refuse to speak of. Even school has proven little refuge.
She's in the halls now, moving with perfect elegance. She kneels down. Picks up... a cell phone. Someone's cell phone. She looks at the lock screen, looks up, and realizes she is alone in the hall save for one other person. "You! Wait."
ii: Suspicious Scalper
Natalia has not, in fact, been interested in the latest 'hot new thing'. To her, most streets are crowded. To her, there have already been dozens of things she hasn't particularly liked and are inexplicably popular.
But... When she hears the prices, she pauses. "That's... Very cheap." And the line for the reseller themselves is packed...
She checks on her cell phone. There's no way that's going to turn up a profit...
And so she gets into line. This bullshit is worth investigating on general principles, though right now, she believes it to be a simple case of forgery.
"Quite the deal," she says, in an attempt to strike up a conversation with someone arguably more normal.

Orion Pax | Transformers: Prime | Nova Primespark
OOC: Will match formatting]
I. Trying to Escape
Orion prided himself on professionalism; when he was working, whether it was tutoring a student or helping someone navigate the stacks, he wanted them to know they had his full attention. So when his phone was incessantly vibrating as calls came in, the tall, serious librarian was getting increasingly flustered, though he did a good job at hiding it as he explained some bit of trivia or another about the topic at hand.
That was, until the phone went off at full volume. Orion jumped, looking around as if under attack before hastily trying to wrestle the device from his pocket. He frowned as he looked down at the screen, ignoring the call and writing a quick text to Nautis.
Acknowledged
He turned back looking distressed about the interruption.
"Apologies. I was certain I had it on silent."
II. But Every Beat is a Violent Noise
"I cannot get a clear shot from here. Are you able clear a path through?"
Commuting was bad enough without the station being infected by a dance plague. Thankfully, after realizing the need to always be prepared, Orion had made a point to identify the best locations to transform along his daily route. Sneaking into a maintenance corridor to transform had been simple enough, but that was the easy part.
Nova Primespark stood at the edge of the crowd, partially hidden behind a decorative pillar. His bow was at his side, prepared to shoot the crystals he had spotted earlier before getting pushed aside by the crowd. He was grateful another Nova Knight had appeared to offer some assistance.

Maomao | The Apothecary Diaries
a. hype immunity
Maomao's father's humble pharmacy is the only business around here that isn't partaking in the the beautiful unit. hype, and its plainness makes it oddly stick out among the storefronts decorated with banners and posters. This is owed largely to the fact that Luomen has no idea who the beautiful unit. is, and Maomao is not going to tell him.
If you need a respite from all the noise, you could probably duck inside, but the teenaged girl behind the counter will remind you with her extremely judgmental eyes that standing room in this shop is for paying customers only. She is also casting her extremely judgmental eyes through the window at the line forming for the suspicious new ticket scalper. You might even hear her mutter to herself about how the tickets those people are buying probably aren't even real.
b. do not disturb
Maomao's phone isn't the only one blowing up in class right now -- she's receiving the same barrage of texts from Nautis that you are, but she doesn't seem to care one ounce about it. Rather, she looks dangerously close to throwing her phone out the window and living a life blissfully free of Nautis.
The thing is, though, you'll need her help to successfully sneak out of class, so you'll have to find some way to persuade the freak who keeps planting weird stuff in the school garden. Surely she has some kind of easily exploitable special interest.
c. oh no
An unexpected side effect of all the magical activity going around lately has caused Maomao to transform involuntarily! But unlike the rest of her fellow comrades, she doesn't transform into a Nova Knight, but a (magical talking) cat. She doesn't particularly like being in this form, and now she's stuck in it.
And even worse, she's stuck like this at school -- or perhaps on a shelf at the local department store. Either way, she's somewhere a cat shouldn't be, and she's going to need some kind of magical help getting back to her human form. You should be able to work this out as a team, right?

Mutsumi Wakaba / Nova Mortis | BanG Dream! (Ave Mujica -the Die Is Cast-)
i. please help me i am being cyberbullied
Nautis to Nova Mortis! Nautis to Nova Mortis! SOS! SOS!
I’m picking up bad vibes from the shopping district downtown! My sensors tell me the enemy is about to unleash a life-draining monster on those poor unsuspecting shoppers. Time to go supernova and save the day!
Just to make sure you saw the previous message: there are people in danger and they need your help, Nova Mortis!
Can you give me your ETA?
Just checking to see if you’ve left yet!
Send me a message just to let me know you saw this, OK?
You could at least turn read receipts on if you’re not going to reply, you know.
You’re not ignoring my messages, are you?
You’re not ignoring my messages, are you?
You’re not ignoring my messages, are you?
The nonstop buzzing of Mutsumi’s phone on her desk is getting really conspicuous. She’d taken it out of her bag just to see who it was, and that had been a mistake. Trying to put her phone back in her bag would only draw more attention to herself, but a bunch of her classmates are already noticing. Mutsumi closes her flip phone and tries covering it with both hands. All it does is kind of muffle the buzzing.
Mutsumi’s eyes dart nervously around the classroom, seeking eye contact with someone she knows. She knows there’s someone out there who needs their help, but she needs help finding an excuse to get out of class right now before the teacher realizes her phone is blowing up like it’s 2299.
ii-a. a different kind of beat (mutsumi)
A small crowd of innocent bystanders is being menaced by a crowd of groove ghosts, conducted by what looks like a giant bee in an acid yellow zoot suit. He moonwalks back and forth in front of his hostages with a taunting grin.
“Sure, I’ll let these folks go…if you can prove your moves worthy!”
The shopping center speakers are suddenly blasting energetic jazz. Huh? They have to dance to beat this monster? Mutsumi might take ballet lessons, but that’s another matter entirely. Even masked up as Nova Mortis, the idea of dancing like this makes her break out in a cold sweat. Instead she takes a breath, steps back, and starts to pick out a hypnotic riff on her guitar.
“Melos mortis.”
Her magic will probably only slow the dancing monster down, but more importantly, it’s drowning out the music from the speakers. Hopefully this will make it a little easier for her fellow Nova Knight to match the monster’s moves. Or they could take it as an opportunity to tag team pummeling this guy until he leaves.
ii-b. let’s dance! (mortis)
A small crowd of innocent bystanders is being menaced by a crowd of groove ghosts, conducted by what looks like a giant bee in an acid yellow zoot suit. He moonwalks back and forth in front of his hostages with a taunting grin.
Nova Mortis stamps a one foot on the ground and points at the Soft Shoe Stinger, her frown almost a pout.
"You let those people go! You can't just kidnap people and make them dance for you!"
The monster lets out a nasty snicker. “Sure, I’ll let these folks go…if you can prove your moves worthy!”
"Huh? You want us to dance?" A smile replaces her blank confusion, and she claps her hands together. "That's all? That sounds pretty easy! Right?"
The Nova Mortis standing next to you seems different from when you've fought together before. Where she was once reticent and uncertain, now she's weirdly carefree and a little childish. And...wait, where did her guitar go, and why is she holding instead a doll that kind of looks like her?

Maya Fey | Ace Attorney Trilogy
In this AU, the Kurain Manor (home of the Feys) is a Pleasure House much less old, much less popular, and much less used-for-pleasure on the front than the Verdigris House... because it's a (sometimes criminal) funerary service out the back. Maya's job isn't usually entertaining guests or even manning books; usually she's actually there to clean up, whether it be after front-of-house guests or back-of-house bodies. Notably, despite her having just reached the age of 19, there's no way you've seen her at school— though you might know her baby cousin, Pearl, or as a fellow fan of hit TV series The Steel Samurai.]
A.
Or of like, anything she can be a fan of, actually, which is why Maya is one of the many people who seems quite hype about the beautiful unit. out on the street right now. Alas, Maya's 'allowance' just doesn't cover scalped tickets or cool merch, so she's left tapping along while a nearby vendor blasts the latest track— at least until the vendor's line starts becoming more of a crowd. She's pushed out of the immediate area as the numbers line up around her, all ready to get selling.
This is definitely weird, so Maya sets out to investigate. The thing is, she hasn't even awoken yet. She's just nosy.
Something's up, and Maya wants to know what it is. So as she moves through the crowds, if she happens to see you not looking like a total fanzombie, she reaches out without hesitation to grab your hand or arm. RIP if you were planning to do literally anything else today.
"Hey. Come here a second," she urges, and tries to drag you along with her.
B.
Somehow, likely through more than a few pulled strings, Maya's ended up at this concert, too. She's seen people— perfectly normal, healthy people— turn into monsters, seen the destruction, marveled at the Nova Knights.
But now you, too, are in trouble, surrounded by monsters on all sides with no way out, and no one but another regular person at your side. Perhaps you were even trying to protect Maya, here where she's nowhere but in the way. She hates it. She just wanted to be able to help, and now here she is, useless.
I just want to help this time, she hears herself say.
Herself?
That's right. There is something she can do to stop the monsters closing in on the both of you— or at least, to help you do so. She just has to reach out and take this chance.
And reach out she does— bathed in light she grasps a bright shining amber pendant in her fist and from it a ribbon erupts into the shape of a sword. Transformation complete, the girl you were protecting stands at your back, ready to fight with you.
"Don't worry! You've got this!" she assures you.
"And I'm right behind you."

It's loud enough in the woodshop that for a minute, Brnine doesn't even notice their phone going off. They're talking to a student, explaining how the joints of the jewelry box are going to fit together, and simultaneously trying to keep an eye on the new transfer student who looks a little too excited to be holding a rubber mallet. All around them there's banging, there's buzzing, there's the rasp of sandpaper, and when Brnine finally registers the pinging of a cell phone amidst it all, they assume it's a student's.
"Phones on silent, guys," they remind their students wearily, but none of the kids even look at them. Brnine can hardly blame them—there are better things for them to focus on, like making sure they don't hammer their own thumbs—but it's school policy, and Brnine will get an earful if the principal catches them failing to enforce it again.
The phone alert comes again, louder this time. They're in the middle of looking around the room for the culprit when it happens again and they realize it's coming from inside their own desk. Crap. Brnine always leaves their phone on silent at work, but Nautis doesn't respect the noble Do Not Disturb setting. They shuffle over to their desk and reach covertly inside the top drawer, praying both that the transfer student doesn't jam her fingers and that the buzz of the table saw masks the persistent ping! ping! ping!
Wait...those pings aren't all coming from Brnine's phone. Brnine looks up and scans the room, and their eyes land on one particular student who is fumbling conspicuously with something under their table.
b.
At the end of a recent mission, Brnine noticed several of the younger Nova Knights chugging water like they'd never had a drop in their life. Now Nova Coral's in the group chat, and unfortunately, they're in advice mode.
hey everyone
just a reminder
it's super important to stay hydrated when you're saving the world!
make sure you drink at least two liters of water every day
and you should always have some electrolytes handy for when you're out in the field
sports drinks, those little electrolyte powders you dump in a water bottle, whatever

Winter | Wings of Fire (voice testing)
Another semester, another batch of transfers and new students, another round of sizing up both the new comers and current classmates to determine where they fit in the categories of students here. Those here on merit, those here on reputation and connections, those here from money. Some of the above- or worse, all of the above. The latter two were easy enough to deal with, but those here because of their own abilities were another story. Academics were not strictly a competition, but Winter knew that disappointing his family was not acceptable, and that meant staying ahead of everyone. As well as knowing who he was up against.
This was Everwave Academy for Distinguished Youths. He deserved to be here, not just because of his position and title. Despite having the money to "ensure" he was enrolled, his parents expected all of their children to be here on their own merit. Winter had studied hard for the entrance exams. He'd accepted his grades would never be as high as his siblings, but he still had his family's reputation to maintain- he still had to try his hardest, and be better than the rest of the rabble.
Which resulted in him watching the other students entering the main hall with more intensity than was strictly necessary, a carefully practiced look of haughty superiority on his face. It made for a cold and insufferably smug aura that was impossible to ignore.
II. By Daylight - Lucky Stars Arcade
Winter could not look more out of place as he stood just off the doorway of Lucky Stars Arcade, a look of utter disdain on his face as he observed the relentless cacophony of sound and color. It was atrocious, seeing the rabble of children and even other teens cavorting around like they didn't have a care in the world. Didn't they know that how they spent their time now would reflect on them the rest of their lives?
"This is such a waste of time," he grumbled to himself as he frowned at his phone when it pinged again, with one more addition to the wall of text messages he had been receiving all day. When this was over he was going directly to his family's cybersecurity consultant and have them pinpoint whoever it was who was daring to contact him like this.
...yet he still couldn't shake the feeling there was something important about it. Otherwise he would have never stepped within 5 miles of this place.
III. By Moonlight -
"Stop acting like some walrus-brained buffoon and help me!" Nova Snowstorm snapped as a freezing wall of ice arose between himself, his so called ally, and the swarm of monsters bearing down on them.
If only he'd had some other, more useful power. Like the ability to freeze his enemies where they stood, or rain ice down on them. Instead all he could do was create these ice barriers, and had to rely on whoever was with him to actually do anything. He hated it. Snowstorm could imagine the exact look of disappointment on his father's face; he had a chance to something truly impressive as a Nova Knight, prove that he could live up to his family's history of ruthless bravery. Be strong. Be vigilant. Strike first. ......Trust no one. The last part wasn't officially part of the family motto, but that didn't stop it from being drilled into his head. Some Icewing heir he was turning out to be, cowering behind this wall and needing someone else to fight for him.
As the monsters pounded on the barrier, he ground his teeth in frustration. At this rate it wasn't going to last long before it shattered.
