Welcome to the beach episode!!!

Each mission for this month will take place on one of two team-wide trips to the beach. Summer is proceeding as usual back in Chalra City, but all of the missions for this month are beach-centric so we're not gonna worry about it. Concerned that your character won't be able to partake in the Beach Fun because they want to protect their secret identity? Fear not! Nautis will assure the cast that everyone has an alternate summer-themed supernova costume they can summon for the beach. This can be a swimsuit but it could also just be a summer-ready outfit with a magical sunhat. Whatever floats your costume boat!

And what better an activity for the beach than fishing? The Littleneck Beach is the perfect place to catch quartz shrimp, and Nautis is even providing everyone with little nets this time, infused with just a little bit of magic. Nautis would find it just too painful to watch the entire cast return from the beach with only a handful of shrimp.

Thanks to Hope's prophetic dream and the data Nautis has gathered from her sensors, she's certain there's Harbinger activity at the beach, most likely up to their usual energy harvesting mischief. She even detects Constellation activity, but not a new one: energy readings that match The Three Sisters have been detected around Littleneck Beach. The Harbingers are clearly up to something at the beach, but given that Dirk and Reese confirmed the captive state of the Constellation, Nautis doesn't have any guesses as to what that might be.

There are also rumors of beachgoers getting more and more competitive — while the average Chalra City resident takes summer contests pretty seriously, it sounds like people have been taking increasingly serious risks and putting themselves in danger. The lifeguards really have it rough this year! Anyway, it sounds to Nautis like everyone needs to hit the beach and enjoy some summer fun while they investigate. Can you say "team building exercise"?

The beach is hopping with activity, and Nautis can't pinpoint exactly where the Harbinger magic is coming from, so Nautis encourages the team to explore as much of the beach and the boardwalk as possible. They can use their dowsing machines to detect Constellation activity, too — this could be their chance to recapture it without having to infiltrate the Harbingers' ship. Who knows what condition it'll be in once it's recovered, though...

The Abyss's hunger knows no end, and the Harbingers are up to their usual schemes to harvest energy for it. Shellustria has been getting better at covering his tracks, and recovering the harvested energy may not be as easy as it's been in the past. Either way, where there's energy harvesting, there's a monster to fight to put an end to it!

NOTE: While Dirk and Reese are technically not eligible for missions this month as part of being trapped in the Abyss, they are allowed to sign up for the unlimited missions because I want everyone to have fun. We can just handwave them not yet being physically/magically (maybe psychologically) ready for regular missions for now.

It's not that she doubts their capability, of course. It would just be so sad if those four goldfish remained all lonesome in those vast tanks!

1) Tournament: Beach Volleyball +1 SP

Littleneck Beach is hosting an all-ages beach volleyball tournament! The prize pool consists of products donated by local vendors like the Seafoam Five and Chime, so while there's no cash prize, you can still win some cool stuff. The tournament format is doubles, meaning everyone is playing in teams of two. Two Knights can sign up to be on a team together; any solo signups will be paired with another competitor by the folks running the tournament.

2) Tournament: Sandcastle Building +1 SP

If you think people are competitive about beach sports, think again: some of the participants in the sandcastle building contest will go to truly insane lengths in the pursuit of the perfect sandcastle. If you want to have any hope of placing in the top three, you'll have to vie with the sandcastle devotees who spend weeks preparing for this contest — some of them even bring their own custom-made molds and tools. There are plenty of people who are just there to have fun, though!

Suggested Combat Type: Attack
Nautis is able to reuse the targeting system used to reach Maya and Hope when they were in the Abyss, and she manages to punch a signal through into the Abyss for Dirk and Reese to follow for their escape. They've been in the Abyss for a little over a week, so who knows what condition they'll be in when they finally get back...
This mission is limited to Dirk and Reese.
NOTE: Mission failure will not result in Dirk and Reese remaining in the Abyss. There will be other consequences for failed rolls.

Nautis said to investigate the beach, and investigate the beach you shall! Between the surf, the sand, and the many shops on the boardwalk, there's a lot to check out, so she encourages everyone to split up into pairs to explore.

5) Capture: The Three Sisters +3 SP

The stolen Constellation seems to be part of the Harbingers' plan, which means the Nova Knights have a chance at recapturing it. They'll have to stop whatever plot the Three Sisters are being used for, and while it would be risky, they might need the help of another Constellation...
There is room for up to two Nova Knights on this mission.

Once the Nova Knights are able to locate the pocket dimension where the energy is being stored, they'll face off with the guardian for this mission. If they can defeat her quickly enough, they can get that stolen energy back, but she's not going to make it easy.

Requesting more info because I completely forgot to add this to the signup, BUT: can you please also describe Mabel's sandcastle for me :) it doesn't have to be super detailed, I just want to get a sense of what everyone's doing and how hard they're going on it.

She’s going HARD. I’m thinking full fairytale princess castle with a unicorn theme. Mixing glitter into the sand to make it colorful. Unicorn gargoyles with googly eyes and a pipe system rigged out of drinking straws so they spit water that’s pumped in. Lights. A royal family of unicorns that all have little outfits, names, backstories, and an ongoing dramatic storyline. (e.g. Duchess Sparklewithers is suspected of being involved in the mysterious death of the Duke, but it was secretly actually orchestrated by her son, the Viscount Hoofstar, because his father would not approve of his desired marriage to Lady Sprinklesaddle, because of her scandalous relationship with… (and so on).)

DESCRIPTION: It has the makings of a good sandcastle - if by which you mean a moat and a single detailed turret, with the rest being a wet glob of sand where she got bored and annoyed at being so bad at it.

Even the detailed part crumbles under a strong breeze, leaving behind little to show for her attempt.

Nature of Nature's Art: Natalia has a firm grasp of materials and statics and so:

She's building a construction site.

A small hill to one side provides a ready place to make seashell concrete in a mixer. Nearby a seashell is being broken up for the purpose by a piledriver. Surveying equipment lines the scene.

A moat has a little steam shovel working over-time to continue its construction. In the distance, a keep, motte, and bailey take shape, all at once, with little beach stones being lifted into place by fanciful driftwood cranes, carefully lashed together with kelp and carved to sustain the loads. Tiny conch shells form the pulleys, and a little sand treadmill is attached to the entire thing.

Of course, the actual castle is incomplete, kept up with already-completed arches and spars formed of seashell-lime-sand cement.

There's even little orange vests on some of the workers.

When asked for a statement, she added, "you mentioned that you wanted to see building of sandcastle."

DESCRIPTION: Hope is not... especially artistic when it comes to stuff like this. But they see some of their competition and they think that they can at least make something presentable that's not a complete embarrassment. Their castle is simple, without much ornamentation, and seems to be focusing more on being competently constructed than anything else. By the end of it, it looks a little like baby's first sand castle, but, like, they had fun with it and that's what matters.

Originally they had a totally different plan, but their sand castle "city" ends up being a bunch of pailfuls of sand that Maya by the end starts to call "The Dune Goons". As Pearl gets frustrated with their heap-like shapes Maya pokes little ghosty faces into them and insists that they're a gang of ghostly guys gathering to overrun the beach.

it looks a bit dumb, but she manages to get Pearl to cheer up and play along, so that's all that matters.
