A few important OOC notes before we dive into this month's event!
⭐︎ As a reminder, we've switched to a new event pacing system where events alternate every other month instead of having a set of missions every month. Low tide months have no events but open with a game update as previous months have, and will also set up the event in the following high tide month, which will open with event logs similar to before (although, like previous event logs, they're intended for all threads taking place in that time period). Event info/signup posts like this one will go up towards the end of low tide months. The IC:OOC pacing ratio has not changed; the more action-y plot is just being distributed differently.
⭐︎ Star Suite Update: The rewards and point threshold for the next unlockable room in the hideout, the Portal. Due to the reduced size of the cast, the SP threshold is now 60, and in addition to the warp upgrade, unlocking the Portal will now upgrade the game's power level to Gold.
⭐︎ Recap: Summer is almost over, but it retreats slowly in Chalra City. It's still pretty warm, and beach season isn't over just yet. Body glitter made its way into the local fashion scene in a big way, with the new makeup brand Shimmersea Cosmetics making a particular splash...but of course it turned out to be yet another one of Shellustria's plots. Thankfully, while Shimmersea Cosmetics has disappeared from shelves, body glitter as a trend is here to stay!
⭐︎ Chalra City is abuzz with the announcement of the theme for this year's Chalra City Arts Council Couture Benefit (aka the Celestial Gala): ocean conservation! The benefit has an emphasis on the importance of protecting our marine life and their environment, with some of the proceeds going to the nonprofit organization Save Our Seas to fund a local ocean cleanup project.
Now that the theme has been unveiled, haute couture designers are going into overdrive designing elaborate outfits for their celebrity clients! Entertainment news coverage is at an all-time high, and TV personalities speculate wildly about the highly anticipated red carpet event happening in just two weeks, discussing the names not just of celebrities but designers themselves. "Who are you wearing?" is the question on every interviewer's lips, and Nova Knights will be surprised to hear at least one of them answer Shelley Lustre. That's right, Everwave Academy's least popular art teacher is making his fashion design debut at this year's Gala! Polarizing pop scene darling Bailey Starling has already namedropped Shelley, but who knows how many celebrities will wind up in a Prince Shellustria original? And most importantly: what does haute couture from the guy who thinks high art is gluing seashells to everything look like?
But let us not forget that this event is known by another name for a reason: the Pet Gala! While this started out as a trend of celebrities dressing their pets in matching outfits, it's since become its own thing with bespoke costumes for various animal guests, with some designers even specializing in pet fashion. The theme, of course, still applies. Not all pets at the Gala are necessarily attached to famous guests anymore — some of them are celebrities in their own right, such as beloved cat litter mascot/spokescat Tasseltail, and Chau Wow, a dog who is also a sunglasses model.
⭐︎ And it wouldn't be another week in Chalra City without the Harbingers getting up to their usual nonsense! Stella's Jewelers, a semi-historical fixture with a reputation for sophistication, is making headlines with a series of sales oriented toward the ordinary wallet: they're selling expensive pieces at absurdly low prices, and the people of Chalra City are cashing in on the opportunity. Pearl necklaces, gem-stone studded rings and all manner of gold and silver accessories are selling like hotcakes, and one has to wonder how Stella's is making a profit on this even with the publicity it's bringing.
Nautis's sensors lead her to suspect more energy harvesting shenanigans, but they face a potentially much bigger problem than just Stella's unsuspecting new customers: it's also been tradition for Stella's Jewelers to contribute a series of elaborate bespoke pieces for the famous attendees of the Gala. Considering how much of the city is now bedecked in Stella's finery and the red carpet event always draws a massive crowd, Nautis is certain that this is part of the Harbingers' plans, and that something much worse than a little fatigue might occur if all of this cursed jewelry congregates in one location.
⭐︎ Which means there's no time for idle Nova Knights! It's time for some investigation. They definitely need to look into what's happening at Stella's Jewelers, but even more than that...they've got to get into that Gala! The Nova Knights will need to investigate the Gala so they can make a plan to get in, whether by obtaining the elusive invites, sneaking in stealthily, posing as celebrities, or some other fourth thing, so Nautis will be tasking two teams to look into both the human and pet sides of the Gala. Why do they need to know more about the Pet Gala specifically? Why, so they can send in Niangniang (Maomao), of course! Since Maomao can turn into a cat, shouldn't they seize on that rare opportunity to utilize her one magical power and dress her up in an absurd costume while they're at it?
York and Delta are experts in infiltration, and they're more than willing to lend a hand with the planning if the Nova Knights ask. And if anyone is worried about having an outfit for the Gala, sweat no further! Nautis informs the Knights that, much like the beach episode, they all have access to another alternate costume they can transform into that suits the occasion. That's right, everyone already has a crazy fancy over-the-top costume available to them, based on elements of their past lives! Your character's Gala costume can look like whatever you want, but it must be 1) at least tangentially on theme, and 2) maximum fabulous. Go big or go home. No, even bigger.

NOTE: Because the boss fight with Shellustria isn't any old showdown, in order to make things as fair as possible, the two Nova Knights for that mission will be determined by lottery. More details are included in the mission description, but if there are more than two signups for the Shellustria fight, the participants will be decided by RNG, and the rest of the signups will be given other cool things to do depending on how many people total sign up. The Shellustria fight also counts as an unlimited mission, which means you can sign your character up for the Shellustria fight as well as one of the investigate missions.

It's time to add some more friends to the Aquarium! It's still beach weather, so on the weekends the Nova Knights can go to Littleneck Beach to catch some Everwave tidal crabs. These are little crabs (no larger than the palm of your hand) and they come in a variety of bright colors. They'll be a great addition!

More than half of the Nova Knights have faced off against Shellustria at one point or another, and each time met with total defeat. Since it's highly likely that the Harbinger Prince himself will be present at the Gala, it'll be most dangerous mission the Nova Knights have embarked on to date. They'll need every advantage they can get, so Nautis is preparing a shield spell to be cast before their mission. Its primary mechanic is a kind of magic resonance that will enable them to endure stronger magical attacks, based on what limited data they have about Shellustria's Glamour magic. The more Knights that lend their magic to the shield, the better protected they'll all be!

Nautis's sensors indicate that the deeply discounted finery at Stella's Jewelers is part of yet another energy harvesting plot by the Harbingers. The Nova Knights will need to gather more intel so they can be prepared for what might happen at the Gala — maybe if Nautis can magically contain it, it might not be a bad idea to buy a few pieces...

Why do the Nova Knights need to know any of this stuff? So they can send (force) Niangniang to the front lines to act as their cat on the inside for the mission, of course!

Whatever else happens at the Gala, the Nova Knights will have to contend with Shellustria. The Harbingers' schemes have already gone too far, and they have an opportunity to take down one of them...with their combined powers, will they be able to bring down the folding fan-wielding Prince?
There is room for up to two Nova Knights for the showdown with Shellustria, two Nova Knights for attempting to capture Shellustria, and four Nova Knights for assorted cool action opportunities that will be detailed in the results post.
Signups are unlimited. As detailed above, if more than two characters sign up for this event, I'll use RNG to determine which two characters fight Shellustria. If more than four characters sign up, the next two characters determined by RNG will be tasked with Shellustria's capture, and the remaining characters will be still involved in the fighting and I'll give them a cool special thing to do if we've got that many signups.
