KALIM AL-ASIM ☀️ TWISTED WONDERLAND

Character Name: Kalim Al-Asim
Canon: Twisted Wonderland
Character Blurb: anime boy gijinka of the Sultan from Aladdin (1992); one of the three whole guys at anime disney villain hogwarts who's based on a character who isn't evil. In canon Kalim is from a wealthy family (not actually royalty) and, as the eldest child, set to inherit the family's immense business empire despite having no qualifications whatsoever and not being on any medication for his blatant ADHD. He's both insanely pampered and the regular target of assassination and kidnapping attempts, which he copes with using massive amounts of repression and denial. He's a wizard but not a super good one; he only goes to wizard school because his dad bribed the school to let him in, because he missed his
servantBest Friend, Jamil. Jamil resents him massively but also cooks all his meals and makes sure he doesn't forget his homework and dresses him and does his makeup for him. It's fine, probably!Code Name: Nova Sunbeam

Combat type: Support! I'm thinking his starting move will be some kind of heatwave mirage effect that confuses enemies... I want him to be able to boost his allies too but I feel like his first move shouldn't be something that necessarily relies on having other Nova Knights present 🤔
Awakening: This is going to have happened when he was at the cinema with Jamil lmao
In-Game Plans: I don't have any involved plans beyond wanting to see how long it takes Kalim to figure out that Jamil is actually one of the Nova Knights lmao :) How things end up going for him generally though will depend on who the other Nova Knights are and how they get along. I'd like for him to be forced to confront his turbo repression at some point though lmao
Present Life: Like in canon, Kalim is the coddled heir to a fantastically wealthy family who lives in luxury apart from all the attempts on his life. Unlike in canon, instead of running a legitimate above-board business, in this AU his family is at the head of one of the most powerful criminal organisations in Chalra City and beyond. Kalim is very determinedly not paying attention to everything that that entails! It's fine, probably! Currently he lives with Jamil – the son of a family in Kalim's family's employ who's been assigned to work as his bodyguard – in an unnecessarily lavish downtown penthouse suite, so that he doesn't have to commute as far to school from his family's estate.
Past Life: We have less of this hammered out, but for Kalim and Jamil's past lives we're running with book 7 dream bubble inspired role reversal shit where Jamil was the rich heir and Kalim was his attendant and bodyguard. Kalim was Definitely struggling with the class distinction breakdown on board the Nashira lmao
Pre-Established CR Hooks:
- Kalim is going to be attending the Everwave Academy for Distinguished Youth; if your character is also a student there (or a staff member) they probably at least know of him, because he's loud and boisterous and throws a lot of parties (although not AS many as he does in canon – not having a dorm lounge with a basically captive guest list diminishes the party possibilities somewhat, but the party spirit still moves him).
- If your character moves in rich people circles it's likely their paths have intersected before. You've probably seen him at a fancy gala or two; his family have their hands in a lot of outwardly legitimate stuff.
- If your character is involved with Crime then it's entirely possible they've dealt with his family before – although it's unlikely they'd have encountered Kalim specifically in that capacity unless they worked with the Asim family very closely. Or unless the crime they were involved in was being hired to try to kidnap or assassinate him. That's happened a lot of times, so if your character is in that kind of line of work........
- Kalim loves living in the city and he's been SO excited to live here ever since he moved downtown for high school that he really loves just wandering around and making friendly conversation with random strangers. The way people who live in a big city usually react when someone they don't know starts talking to them for no reason has yet to put him off doing this.
Desired CR/Hooks: I am hype for absolutely everything. Kalim is super friendly even to people who objectively suck, but he's also really really annoying, especially at the canon point equivalent he's starting off at here. He's extremely thoughtless and oblivious and he regularly talks over people and tunes them out when they're saying stuff that doesn't align with whatever he's hype about right now (like, for example, that they can't come to the party he just invited them to). He doesn't have an intentionally mean bone in his body, but for any other character who isn't also a massive bimbo, the question is less whether they're going to find him obnoxious and more how bad they're going to feel about how obnoxious they find him.
Other: this one is actually ooc at this point in his character development. kalim Is going to dance and play his drums. he is going to plug in his bass and lay a slap riff over this. and jamil is going to go into his mind palace and get really just you wait henry higgins about it

Orion Pax || Transformers Prime

Character Name: Orion Pax (Optimus Prime) "OP"
Canon: Transformers Prime
Character Blurb: Orion Pax was historical archivist working in the Iacon Hall of Records. Concerned with the growing corruption in Cybertronian society, he wound up befriending gladiator and activist(?) Megatronus and working with him to try and oust the many injustices happening. His strong sense of justice, compassion, and inspirational nature lead to him being granted the Matrix of Leadership. At this point Megatronus decided Optimus was a traitor to their cause and formed the Decepticons to bring down Cybetronian society through violence. This led to the Cybertronian Civil War, and I'm sure you can figure out the rest from there.
Orion is quiet, studious, kind, and far too generous with second chances. and third chances. and thousandth chances. He can also be overly serious and hyperfocused on goals/objectives, and holds himself and others to high standards.
Everything from here is TBD, assume everything has a (?) following it because I am not really set on anything yet

Awakening: At the moment I am thinking a dream/vision of his past life's dying wish following an ideological falling out/very messy public breakup with his now ex-boyfriend.
Present Life:
Grad student or recent grad specializing in history and society and entrenched in academia. In addition to his studies, Orion works as a librarian/teaching assistant/tutor/similar occupation that would have him in the general proximity of other characters while also being a huge nerd. Shares an apartment in one of the more historic areas of the city with his ill-tempered best friend who is in med school.
Past Life:
A noble hailing from a Lesser Constellation in proximity of the capital and leader of their region's militia, on track to join the Elite Guard. The arrival of the Abyss and subsequent war for the planet interrupted those plans.
Thought #1: Following the exodus from Hassaleh, Orion's past life was one of the first to adapt to the changing social order and became an advocate for integration between the classes. He came to be seen as a leader and protector amongst the crew and community of the Nashira. His dying wish was that their people could find a place where they would be free of the suffering brought on by the Abyss.
Thought #2: After boarding the Nashira, Orion's past life was involved in an incident of notable significance where one of his peers and a fellow noble was killed. While blameless in the accident, he took responsibility upon himself and as a result was stripped of his rank and delegated to a maintenance crew. His dying wish was that he could have lived up to his potential to be the person their people needed him to be.
In-Game Plans: At the moment just seeing how Orion integrates with the rest of the cast.
Pre-Established CR Hooks: Anything related to his academic life (classmate, professor, etc.) or his work as a librarian/TA. He's the kind of person you would "know" but have never talked to: the guy you see every day on your commute, the guy who always sits in the same spot at the library, the guy who is in a bunch of your classes but always on the other side of the room, etc. I'm open to hashing stuff out here.
Desired CR/Hooks: I am open to any and all CR always- positive, negative, you name it! A good first direction may be someone who can drag him out of his shell and actually interact with people instead of immediately going home to study.

Since his military career was derailed by the arrival of the Abyss, do you think he could have gained an initial reputation for leadership etc by participating in the fighting before he escaped aboard the Nashira? You def don't have to decide now, but I think some more fun food for thought about his past life is thinking about what he was doing during the relatively brief period when they were trying to fight back against the Abyss.

Character Name: Natalia Koutolika
Canon: Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine
Character Blurb: Natalia Koutolika, The Prodigy, in her home canon, is the kind of omni-competent action heroine who would be the one who always wins in combat games. In the game, she's a thorough examination of this sort of character, what drives them, and what makes them break-- and, more importantly, sets the baseline for its decidedly more openly powerful characters, like the Child of the Sun (who is also the Sun), The Wishing Boy (owner and creator of the titular Wish-Granting Engine), and Rinley Yatskaya(Rinley). Similarly, here, being an omnicompetent action hero can be useful, but it really isn't... what lets you win as a Nova Knight. Sorry, Natalia!
Her first quests are to partially unfreeze her heart, take in peaceful moments, and introduce herself to the other characters via hunting for Typhon, the golden snake of the rooftops and god-monster.
As Chuubilis is wont to do this can lead to many interpretations as arcs proceed, but we're starting from the same baseline.

Combat Type: Any Which Way She Can, which implies a Defense Type. Blessed spears, bows and arrows, good-old-fashioned fisticuffsmanship? Given her eventual aspirations, this should probably take notes from judo and tae kwon do, as well. Not much magic in there, I think. At least, not for a while.
I'm not entirely sure what her Code Name and Domain are. Thanks to her initial character sheet, the obvious answer is something icy, but... I don't like it here. That centers her trauma, not her passions, and it's pretty clearly the passions that drive a Nova Knight.
Awakening: I think that as for her Awakening, I like the idea of her getting a chance meeting, and it turning into an absolute spiritual experience, in the worst possible sense of the word-- the kind of thing that makes you want to wander out into the desert for a while wondering what the heck that was.
Present Life: Natalia's current life is easy enough to transplant: She's a recent emigre from some place that is plenty awful, and plenty cold, and she bears the scars of both poverty and personal tragedy. It's been about six weeks since she started school as of May Phase 1. While previously, she was considered a prodigy of both mathematics and martial arts, lately she's been adrift. Her family includes her parents-- her father is a fisherman, and her mother is queen of muddling through and doing cottage industry stuff-- and her older brother, Vasili. They're all warm people-- so why is Natalia herself so cold? (grief giving rise to cynicism and apathy)
Past Life: The obvious contrast I came up with would be to make her past life a Constellation-- but an Oracle proclaimed early on that she was fated to marry an Aster. I'm fairly certain that if this is canon, they did this on the Nashira herself. Still, it feels a bit 'pat'. I think her wish was related to grief, somehow-- her spouse died before she did, likely protecting her-- and that grief is the commonality, I think, between her past life and her present.
In-Game Plans: Facing Typhon alone or with friends feels like a natural first stop if we're doing player plots; a snake that controls storms and absorbs energy by poisoning you with something that makes you forget all the things precious to you, and lining her nest with those stained-glass loves and outrages as she digests them? Yeah, that's a heck of a monster of the week!
Pre-Established CR Hooks: Fellow students and classmates comes to mind first and foremost. Teachers, people who know her family and see the strange, cold child. Anyone who wants to excel in maths, sciences, or the equivalent of the SATs.
Desired CR/Hooks: She wants to thaw her heart, but it hurts. Romances, genuine friendships, people getting jealous of her, people realizing she works an extra part time job to make ends meet?

Maomao | The Apothecary Diaries

Canon: The Apothecary Diaries
Character Blurb: Maomao is a student at Everwave who works at a family-run pharmacy and that is also her primary hobby. Her only interests are in "making medicine" and "testing poison" (these are simply two sides of the same coin) and she lives for the pursuit of novel sensations induced by toxic substances. She will not hesitate to put something dangerous and/or questionable in her mouth if she thinks she will learn something from it or if it will feel interesting. She is a known certified freak at school for all of these reasons and also because she keeps planting weird stuff (medicinal herbs. and some other things) in the school garden. i regret to inform you all that modern AU Maomao is one hundred percent a Hot Sauce Guy and she's not even in it for the taste
Code Name/Domain/Combat Type: all n/a the only thing she turns into is a magical talking cat
Awakening: N/A, she won't be starting the game awakened!
Present Life: Maomao lives with her adoptive father Luomen, who was once a highly respected doctor but ultimately had his license revoked over a malpractice case in which he was not actually at fault. No longer a practicing doctor, now he owns a rundown pharmacy across the street from the Lucky Stars Arcade where Maomao works as both his apprentice and his only employee.
Much like in canon, she was born and mostly raised at Verdigris House as the courtesan version of "raised by a village" and has a complicated relationship with her biological father's family. Luomen is technically her great-uncle on her father's side, but due to a series of It's Complicated situations, and has adopted Maomao as his daughter and accepted her as an apprentice, if only because he knows that Maomao making drugs is a matter of when and not if and he'd better keep her pointed in the right direction while she's still young.
Despite her income level falling well below the average student at Everwave Academy, it was precisely her biological father's family's connections that got her into the school, and while she can't stand being surrounded by whiny rich kids, this school provides her with unprecedented opportunities to study pharmacology as a high school student and the promise of even better higher education in that field. So even though she sucks incredibly hard at studying for or caring about anything that isn't in her special interest category, she is motivated to get halfway decent grades to stay on track to graduate and not get kicked out of school.
Her lack of money means she can't afford the expensive school uniform, so she commutes in street clothes. Like Haruhi from Ouran, only more rude. Privately she is relieved because she doesn't actually want to wear the school uniform.
Past Life: she was a magical talking cat and assistant to the ship's doctor on the Nashira. that's pretty much all i got for her, but if this provides a convenient hook for your character in some way, let's run with it
In-Game Plans: Maomao is here as my self-indulgent NPC because i wasn't initially planning on playing a PC here and also because every magical girl group needs a mascot. she's mostly here for funsies CR with you guys and as a convenient plot device when i need one.
Pre-Established CR Hooks: classmates from school (bonus points if you're another way-less-than-wealthy kid), regulars at the pharmacy, people who have seen her put questionable things in her mouth, folks from the red-light district where she grew up — i am down for all of it!
Desired CR/Hooks: i love any and all Maomao CR but i think her negative CR with people who are trying to make friends with her is peak comedy. if you need someone to be callously blunt or solve an obtuse mystery for you, she's your girl

Canon: Friends at the Table
Character Blurb: In their home canon, Brnine is an acerbic fish alien arms manufacturer turned mercenary turned revolutionary + swagless team (nonbinary) dad. They're drawn into a revolution against their will by Valence, a character they were pretty clearly falling in love with (shh, don't tell anyone), and after Valence's sudden death, they become committed to Valence's revolution heart and soul. Over time, they work on their social skills such that they stop being an outright asshole and become "only" unspeakably awkward to talk to or be around. They captain a spaceship with a team of revolutionaries that includes multiple earnest young adults, for whom they have a huge soft spot. (Don't worry, they love their older crew members too.) They have big divorcé energy and are also oozing grief, for Valence and for other people they've lost along the way, that they absolutely refuse to talk about or even acknowledge. To say they have emotional problems would be a massive understatement.

(I'm wide open to suggestions, prompts, ideas, etc. on literally everything past this point!)
Combat Type: Support or defense. I'm not totally sure about their starting move yet, but I think it would be fun for their powers to be themed around protection for the other Nova Knights, especially the teens (see "present life" below), kind of like how a coral reef is a safe home for all the little fishies.
Awakening: I...am not sure how they awakened to their powers yet! Would love to hear ideas if anyone has any! I do know that when they heard their past self saying their dying wish, the wish was "avenge them," and they misinterpreted that as "avenge the teens" (it was actually "avenge Valence").
Present Life: Brnine is the shop teacher at the Everwave Academy for Distinguished Youths. After they awaken to their powers, they fight as a Nova Knight not out of some grand belief in the justice of what they're doing but because they're an adult, a lot of the other Nova Knights are their students, and someone needs to watch the kids' backs. In their personal life, they're a loner with a lot of hobbies and, uh, not a lot of friends.
Past Life: I am so, so vague on this except that I know Valence existed in their past life and died on the Nashira before the rest of the Nova Knights did, probably at an earlier point during the final confrontation. Ideas welcome! I need to brainstorm!
In-Game Plans: I don't have a ton of in-game plans yet! The main one is that I want them to regain their memories of their past life gradually over time, such that when they start to remember Valence, they're gut-punched with fresh grief that they have no idea what to do with.
Desired CR/Hooks: I would LOVE for Brnine to develop an awkward but earnest mentor-mentee relationship with one or more of their students. They're also desperately in need of friends, of any age! And I would be super open to romance tbh; in canon, Brnine has several bizarre flirting-but-then-friendzoning-but-also-they're-already-divorced relationships with other revolutionaries after Valence dies, including one where the other character is kind of awful and they don't even really get along, so the weirder the vibes, the better!

- If you haven't figured out where Brnine was in the social hierarchy, would it make sense for them and Valence to be of the same class, or would there have been a class divide between them? Based on Brnine's canon details, it seems like the best bet would be Aster for both of them.
- Would Valence have also been a revolutionary in some capacity on Hassaleh? One potentially interesting option is having Valence's faction be really opposed to the Abyss's previous Harbingers, the alien envoys who came to Hassaleh.
- If you want Brnine's past life to mirror their present life more closely, they could have been some kind of artisan on Hassaleh. And I know that the "avenge them" wish that Brnine takes to mean protecting the teens is REALLY about Valence, but considering their Coral Reef domain, do you think Brnine could have had some kind of relationship (or a conspicuous lack of one) with local kids in their past life? Or maybe there was another group of people they felt protective and supportive towards besides Valence? It could provide a little fun contrast if Brnine wasn't able to fully realize that in their past life.
Re: their awakening, I think it'd be great for their awakening to happen jointly with one of their students to reinforce the initial misconception about their dying wish. I currently don't have anything planned for Mutsumi's awakening so I'd be happy to volunteer her, but it definitely doesn't have to be her if someone else wants their character to have a joint awakening with Brnine!

Character Name: Hope Carassia

Character Blurb: Hope is the illegitimate daughter of the patriarch of the obscenely wealthy Carassia family. They spent most of their childhood living, frankly, in the lap of luxury, and their father is even funding their lifestyle now that they're 25 and not legally his problem anymore—just as long as they never cause problems for the family. (This has not messed with them in the slightest, and they know how to feel all of their emotions perfectly.) They have no idea if they would actually be able to survive without their father's money and the idea of finding out terrifies them, so—even though they strain constantly against the chains they've placed around their own heart—they force themself to be quiet, be small, be normal. Code Name: Nova Pandora
Domain: Binding
Combat Type: Support
Awakening: This isn't something I've thought about too much yet, but I think it would make the most sense for them to come into their powers in a moment where they desperately feel the need to do something about some injustice that they're otherwise forced to sit back and watch from the sidelines (in the name of keeping a low profile).
Present Life: Hope doesn't really do much, or at least they wouldn't say they do. They tend to keep to their small area of the city; if they're not in their apartment then they're bouncing between pet stores, konbinis, and net cafes. Though they may have near limitless money, they feel like it's necessary to maintain a modest, quiet life where they don't bother anybody or raise their voice to support people who are downtrodden, no matter how much they actually want to do it. They take very good care of the fish that they keep as pets, and they're pretty skilled at first-person shooters (which is what they're practicing at the net cafes all the time), but otherwise, they really do just try to keep themself under the radar whenever possible.
Past Life: In short, they were a diviner-in-training who saw a horrible disaster prophesied in the waves and refused to actually tell anybody about it. Although the prophecy is absolute, they couldn't believe that disaster would befall them in such a way, so they just tried to ignore it as best they could. Of course, when disaster did fall, they sunk into depression and guilt, feeling themself personally responsible for what happened (even though that's obviously impossible). They spent a lot of time on the ship begging the Ocean for forgiveness and keeping to themself, making a name as "the one who stays up all 'night' staring at the fish and crying".
In-Game Plans: I'm not much of a planner, honestly. Mostly I just want to get Hope acclimated to being around other people and expand their emotional spectrum a little bit more. I'm more than happy just seeing what happens.
Pre-Established CR Hooks: The Carassias are a known entity among the elite of the city, so it's possible that people knew Hope from a few years ago while they were growing up inside Carassia Manor. In the modern day, though, they bounce from activity to activity a lot and have tried nearly everything once. Not a lot has stuck, but if there's an odd hobby or craft that your character dabbles in, Hope's probably been there buying supplies or taking classes. Other than that, their regular haunts are net cafes and convenience stores.
Desired CR/Hooks: Hope needs friends. Hope needs so many friends because they have no idea how to make them and have a terrible time keeping them. Friends their own age would be nice, but they're not picky. They have so many emotions inside them and they need to know people who won't blow up their entire life if they laugh a little too hard one time.

My main question is, did the nature of the disastrous prophecy only affect them, or did it have implications for other people? It's fine if you haven't decided what the specific prophecy was, but I'm curious about how many people encountered misfortune as a result of Hope not sharing the prophecy.

Character Blurb: anime boy gijinka of Jafar from Disney's Aladdin (1992). This is who I am now. In Twisted Wonderland's version of things Jamil has grown up as Kalim's servant and Designated Best Friend (By Kalim) due to their families' histories, which he resents a WHOLE lot. He's also secretly very talented but has had to hide this his whole life due to not being allowed to outshine Kalim in any way. However, he's also developed such an unpleasant level of ego about this, as well as a manipulative and cruel streak, that it's honestly hard to sympathize with him very much. You'd also want to murder Kalim if you were in his shoes though trust

Probably gonna let him go full edgelord assassin's creed about it since a hood is OBVIOUSLY required for his magical girl look. For powerset, I'm considering: crescent moon daggers, shadow phasing, maybe invisibility or teleport cloak?? He's going to be doing some full melodramatic Tuxedo Mask nonsense I can tell you that, I CANNOT stress enough how embarrassing this guy is
Awakening: I haven't decided the exact circumstances, but the key detail is that Kalim was not there and does not know about it because Jamil is going to be trying to keep his double life a secret from his as long as possible, despite there being no purpose whatsoever to this. It's the principle of the thing. Honestly he's SO buttmad Kalim is a Nova Knight at all ❤️
Present Life: In Calra City, Jamil is Kalim's bodyguard-slash-enforcer-in-training with their families in a similar Traditional Generational Arrangement as in canon. Also as in canon Jamil is SO resentful of this, but here it's a bit more focused around Jamil having to do Kalim's dirty work while he's determined to stick his head in the sand about being a mafia heir. They also have not even BEGUN to address any of their issues at this point in time so that's a whole bomb waiting to go off!!! The question isn't If Jamil is going to eclipse but When
Past Life: Details are still vague, but we've at least decided on a role reversal situation with Jamil as the noble and/or wealthy merchant heir and Kalim as his servant and like it SEEMS a better arrangement at first but it turns out that it was just as fucked up in different ways. Haven't quite worked that out yet, but 🤔 one thing I would like to explore is how much of Jamil's shitty attitude comes from his Lifelong Resentment vs his natural personality. I mean obviously he'll still be a scheming little dickhead but what would he actually be like without a humongous chip on his shoulder about having to hold himself back... much to think about...
oh we also decided that Jamil probably died saving Kalim in Otherwise Vague Circumstances so that present day Jamil can have a total incredulous conniption about it when he regains that memory :)
In-Game Plans: As referenced above I plan on Jamil trying to keep his real identity secret even from his teammates for as long as he can, but I do NOT care how successful he actually is with it with anyone other than Kalim, who is extremely easy to fool anyway. I think it would be really funny if other people had his number actually so feel free to have your characters figure it out even if they're not that smart.
Pre-Established CR Hooks: Jamil makes it his business to stay beneath notice as much as possible, so it is very unlikely that anyone would know who he is unless they have directly encountered Kalim and thought to pay attention to That Guy Always Hanging Out Behind Him. It's very likely he's at least heard of other characters of prominence though since it's his job to be Kalim's walking reference material, lucky him!
Desired CR/Hooks: Again, Jamil will be living a double life for as long as I can get mileage out of it, and I would love to play with him having potentially two different dynamics with all the other characters. He's a demure, quiet wallflower by day and the haughtiest asshole you've ever had the misfortune to meet by night. He's also REALLY mean to Nova Sunbeam for no reason in particular, what's up with that?? I imagine most of his civilian CR will be (blandly, boringly) positive and all his Nova Knight CR will be EXTREMELY negative and I really want to play with that dichotomy 🙏

Character Blurb: Mutsumi is a soft-spoken and stoic girl who struggles to express herself — the self-sacrificing type who will suffer in silence for her friends and is quick to blame herself for discord between them. She's the child of two popular celebrities to whom she is constantly compared, and picked up the guitar so that she would have something that belonged only to her. She also has DID and her other primary alter is Mortis, who acts as her protector and steps in when Mutsumi buckles under pressure. Mortis is considerably more cheerful and upbeat and much better with people, but she tends to be childish in her outlook and controlling when things don't go her way.

Awakening: I don’t have any specific plans for Mutsumi’s awakening, so if you want her to participate in your character’s awakening, I’m down! I think her awakening is most likely going to coincide with Brnine's, but if you want your character to have their magical girl awakening by way of interacting with Mutsumi let's do it
Present Life: Similarly to canon, Mutsumi is the child of two of Chalra City’s most beloved celebrities, the comedian Wakaba and the actress Minami Mori. Constantly compared to her parents and put into the public eye from a young age, Mutsumi never really got to be a normal kid, and developed a number of alters to handle different stressful situations. She picked up the guitar at a young age so that she could have something to herself, which had a stabilizing effect on her DID — the alter who started learning guitar became the host, and the majority of her other alters went completely dormant, with host Mutsumi fronting more or less 24/7. She joined the band CRYCHiC in middle school, but while it went really well at first, the band broke up very abruptly and dramatically, and Mutsumi assigns blame to herself for not knowing how to have fun in a band. The only other girl in CRYCHiC who went to Everwave has since switched schools, and since then, Mutsumi's been in kind of a very quietly sad funk. She needs some friends you guys
Past Life: Mutsumi and Mortis (and all of their other alters) were siblings in their previous lives as Constellation nobility. Due to as of yet some unspecified but non-accidental tragedy, all of the siblings except for Mutsumi and Mortis died in some horrible way when they were tweens. Only the two of them survived because Mortis was able to protect Mutsumi in some way, and after this point they became unhealthily codependent and are near inseparable.
I've coordinated with Celene to an extent for whatever tragedy befell their family to have been part of the prophecy that diviner-in-training Hope ignored, but I haven't figured out exactly what happened yet, or if the rest of their family died too or if it's just the rest of the sisters. I've also talked with Harry and Lex about the fact that Jamil & Kalim and MutsuMortis & co. spend a good deal of time around each other as kids due to various noble functions etc, but after most of them died Kalim didn't really want Jamil hanging out with them in case their tragedy was contagious 😔
For obvious reasons, they had different names in their past lives: Melos (present-day Mutsumi) and Mori (present-day Mortis). I'm undecided as to their Constellation name, but they both took on the code name Nova Mortis, not only due to their Death domain but also perhaps as a means of honoring their dead sisters.
In-Game Plans: Mutsumi will start the game with Mortis still dormant, but I'd like to play out another version of the arc they have in canon, and how that gets resolved depends heavily on the people in her life so I think that'll be a fun time! Once the pressure of leading a double life starts to crush Mutsumi, Mortis will start taking over whenever Mutsumi goes supernova. I'd love to play out a version of the conflict between them in canon that involves one or both of them going into eclipse and Mortis fronting outside of Nova Knight form. They will need the help of their friends!!
Pre-Established CR Hooks:
- Toxic Childhood Bestie: this is kind of a requirement for Mutsumi to be the way she is, and i could make that person an offscreen NPC but it would be SO much more fun and interesting if it was another Nova Knight. basically Mutsumi needs to have a friend for whom she is silently self-sacrificing for and to whom she feels beholden. Bonus points for unintentional emotional distance caused by the other person also wordlessly assuming responsibility for everything and then caving under the pressure they have put on themselves. Even MORE bonus points if they were in Mutsumi's band in any capacity because the ideal here is that she thinks the band breaking up is her fault for not having enough fun
- Former Bandmates: I'm kind of vaguely handwaving the members of CRYCHiC as background NPCs, but I would love love love if any of those former bandmates was also a magical girl. I'm open to retconning this with characters who app in the future as well! Same goes for the above childhood bestie role.
- Showbiz Acquaintances: Mutsumi has spent pretty much her entire life in the light of the entertainment industry, so if your character is also deeply embedded in the Chalra City version of the Hollywood scene, they could have met as kids or more recently!
Desired CR/Hooks:
- New Friends: my god does she need them. Someone get this girl some fun and support. She definitely needs pals who can help her see her own value as a friend and person. And both she and Mortis will need those friends when they are fighting :)
- Music Friends: Mutsumi's guitar is crucial to her identity and she's extremely technically talented, but she also feels like she can't play with emotion or let her guitar "sing". Does anyone wanna start a new band with Mutsumi and reap some juicy drama
- Secret Identity Nonsense: I want what we all want here: stupid and funny misunderstandings because of the secret identity oblivion field. This will be even more stupid and funny when Mortis shows up
- Negative CR: I love negative CR. chomp chomp
Mutsumi very much keeps to herself but she's prone to saying the wrong thing/miscommunicating her feelings. Both of these things make her a primo bullying target. Mortis is a good deal more meddle-y and stubborn and more likely to actually get in an argument with someone. That girl knows how to hold a grudge

Awakening: I am not picky except that it would be Thematically Good if Maya was maybe late to the party and/or awoke trying to help someone else out.
Present Life: This is the one I have the most ideas for thanks to harry and lex's enabling. Maya's family is technically running a funerary service for the underprivileged and those inclined toward looser interpretations of the law, if you know what you're looking for. On the front, though, it's a 'rival' for Verdigris house in the Pleasure district. It's not... actually a rival, and it's really more of a front, but Maya's shitty aunt sure thinks they have to compete.
Anyway Maya's mom fucked off for some reason leaving her in the care of aforementioned shitty aunt who would really rather her own daughter be the defacto leader the Kurain household once she comes of age, and Maya's just so rude as to get in the way. Shame. Deemed unfit to even bother to train to entertain guests (though she's certainly a quick enough learner on her own) Maya's job has usually been cleaning up. Cleaning up after guests. Cleaning up after funerary preparations.
She didn't get to do much school herself, but now she's pretty devoted to walking her baby cousin to school every day— her baby cousin being a good friend of Jamil Viper's sister, of course. They all know each other through the most wonderful method of bonding of them all: being born into a family that does crime.
Maya's real passion in life, though, is fandom. Her devotion to the Best Show in the world, The Steel Samurai. She wants him. She wants to be him. He is a robotic samurai. She is a very short squishy girl. Regardless, she knows all the Steel Samurai's best moves.
Past Life: This one I have fewer ideas about but I definitely want to lean into themes of Maya being a vessel in canon and not really having a lot of autonomy, of being powerless in certain situations while also feeling like her abilities are not her own to take pride in. Someone who was, as she is Now, always throwing themselves into things whole heartedly for the sake of others to the point of forgetting to address their own desires and needs.
In-Game Plans: My plans are incredibly flexible she mostly is just Friends with people. Got a lot of what Has Happened Already sorted out but less clear on the Later.
Pre-Established CR Hooks: Maya was probably kept isolated and away from school growing up by Morgan, and the same with her Big Sister who may or may not be around. As a result her friends are probably few and far between, stolen through various opportunistic moments such as Family Meetings, sneak-outs with big sis or baby cousin to City Events, or.....
Online Steel Samurai Fanclub Members. The girl's got a phone and she knows how to navigate the forums. Her friends online are just as real as in real life!
Oh, also, once you're close to her? She wants to be YOUR big sister. Is she younger than you? Doesn't matter. Big sister. Had different intentions in mind? Too bad. Ignoring it. Big sister. Don't actually like her that much at all?

Desired CR/Hooks: Truly I have no preference. The reality is that everything with maya is interesting and funny. She's so very kindhearted and really does want to big sister at everyone, but she's an insatiable trickster as well. She thinks she needs to manipulate people in order for them to even so much as give her attention, let alone help her in situations she might need it. She doesn't always know when a joke is too much. She acts like a social butterfly and she's great at reading the room, but she's actually inexperienced in social situations. Most things she knows about the world and relationships are from watching either her loveless, outsider-distrusting family or from TV shows.
She can also be very quiet and reserved with outsiders she hasn't met, especially since so far in this au she hasn't met Phoenix to really bring her out of her shell. Outside of having some childhood acquaintances, she might not consider everyone safe to share information with, even if she's very polite. I'd love to have some situations where people might not immediately recognize that she lives her whole life idolizing shounen content because she's busy not being sure if talking to this person will get her in trouble back at home.
That said obviously she's a great friend to have too! And hopefully one day will be a helpful support as well. She's dearly devoted and tends to fall into the role of sidekick for others. It'd be cool if maybe she was allowed to be little a bit mad about her situation for once instead of being limited by canon to never be upset about her situation and always self abandon. achievable through the power of friendship maybe?

my question to you is: how much do you think maomao and maya have actually interacted over the years. they definitely have a Rapport (i LOVE the energy in ur tdm tag) and maomao definitely would not consider maya a Friend but i do think it is funny if like, they were each other's ONLY option for peer socialization in their neighborhood growing up. maya has probably watched maomao put SO many dubious things in her mouth
